Individual 3D Data

Customized surgery simulations require 3D data for generation of virtual models of the patient’s anatomy.
3D image data of the whole body including inner tissues and bones can be obtained from Computer
Tomography (CT) or Magnet Resonance Imaging (MRI). CT is widely applied in reconstructive surgery
for visualization of bone structures to be manipulated. However, in aesthetic surgery, which deals with
correction of surface soft tissue layer, routine application of X-rays is not possible.

For breast augmentation, we developed a unique modeling approach which is based on 3D surface
scanning technology and  does not require volumetric (CT,MRI) data. 3D surface scanning provides
a photo-realistic representation of the patient’s appearance. It is performed within few minutes with
the help of normal optical cameras, i.e. without usage of radiation or chemistry, and, thus, absolutely
free of any adverse health effects.
